Stories on the Ground
Young Journalist Ms Wendy Agbo reports on the lack of electricity supply in the Ikota Community. Finding a way to wide-spread electrification of the African continent will be one of the core objectives of this year’s HLM.
This audio slideshow on “Energy in mid-air” has been sent to us by the Young Journalists Programme scholar Ms Lou Del Bello from Italy, currently working for SciDev.Net. It will be of great importance for the HLM’s participants to have a look into further long-term opportunities in the renewable energy sector, especially relating to small-scale production on the ground.
Over 1.2 million people benefited from the Providing Access to Modern Energy for Northern Uganda (PAMENU) project, which ran from January 2008 to May 2011. The project helped people in Northern Uganda access modern energy, by assisting Northern Ugandans to install solar and hydro technologies and also by providing energy efficient stoves. This is not only life changing for the people affected, but in the case of new stoves can be life saving as people convert to cleaner fuels in the home.

It reflects the shared vision and commitment to work towards common goals of over 80 African and European countries -- and a combined population of 1.5 billion citizens.
