First High Level Meeting
of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership
Vienna, 2010
The First High Level Meeting (HLM) of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) successfully concluded.
The host country of the Meeting, Austria, represented by Dr Michael Spindelegger, Federal Minister for European and International Affairs welcomed the Co-Chairs – African Union Commissioner Dr Elham M.A. Ibrahim – EU-Commissioner for Energy, Günther Oettinger - EU-Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs – Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development from Mauritius, Devanand Virahsawmy – and Parliamentary State Secretary Gudrun Kopp for the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Together with Ministers and high level representatives from 24 European and 33 African countries, they adopted concrete goals for the future of the Partnership. Later, European Commissioner Andris Piebalgs launched the Partnership’s first initiative, the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP).
Altogether, more than 300 participants at the conference discussed the issues of energy security, energy access, renewable energy and energy efficiency.
