Jon Marks is chairman of Cross-border Information (London) Ltd (CbI), a UK-based political risk and business consultancy, and publisher of African Energy, African Energy Atlas and Gulf States Newsletter. With a growing staff of full-time area specialists, CbI provides political risk, energy and other research to a range of clients involved in Africa and the Middle East. Jon has led on CbI’s work with the Africa-EU Energy Partnership and a number of other recent African power, gas, financial and political risk-focused projects. A political scientist with an especial interest in the energy and financial industries of Africa (as well as North Africa politics), Jon has lectured on four continents; he has been published in a wide range of British and international media – from academic journals to tabloid newspapers – and is a well-known broadcaster (in English and French). Jon is an associate fellow of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) and among other roles outside CbI, has worked on Africa/Mediterranean region-related policy issues and analysis in the European Commission and British Parliament.
