Since 2010 Winfried Zarges has been Sector Manager Infrastructure, Energy and Water for the GIZ Support programme to the African Union and NEPAD. In this position he is in charge of building a new portfolio which includes water programmes for the AUC and AMCOW and support for the implementation of PIDA (Program for Infrastructure Development in Africa) Financed by Germany. He previously held positions including Head of Transboundary Water Management in Africa, GTZ Headquarter in Germany (with overall responsibility for all GTZ activities and projects on transboundary water management in Africa), Programme Manager of the Sustainable utilisation of natural resources program German Technical Cooperation (GTZ Ethiopia), Senior
Policy Officer for food security in Africa GTZ, Germany and Project Manager for the National Grain Board of Benin. Mr Zarges studied economics at the Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany..
